Trybeo: a social challenge app

Co-founded and built the app that let friends create and compete in challenges.

From 2017 to 2018 I co-founded Trybeo with Thomas Loarec and Yannick Maurugeon, a Seattle startup that let friends create and compete in challenges. We built it at Startup Hall, a UW CoMotion Labs incubator, working alongside student teams throughout the project.

What I built

As CTO, I built the entire stack.

  • Backend. Started on Node.js, LoopBack, and MongoDB, then rebuilt on a serverless Firebase backend for scalability and cost.
  • Web app. Built in React.
  • Mobile app. Built in React Native, for iOS and Android.

What happened

We reached about 10,000 users in six months, but struggled with retention. The company closed after about fifteen months: funding ran out, and the founders moved on to other things.
